Visit the only surviving residence of the visionary poet and parliamentarian, John Milton - and the place where he completed his epic masterpiece Paradise Lost. Milton came here to escape the Great Plague of 1665, and we have been open as a museum since 1887 - giving everyone the opportunity to experience where literary history was made. Grade I listed, we are home to one of themost important collections of his 1st edition books on public display - as well as a unique literary garden, planted with trees, flowers and fruits referenced in his poetry.
